This mix brings you another journey into one of my most beloved periods '78 to '82. This mix delves into just some of the musics me and my friends were soaking ourselves in, in those heady days of 18 to 22. Mind you, there was no boundaries for us in those times, Burt Bacharach, Genesis, Eno and the Kinks could fit into the mix of a regular day in a Newtown Kitchen, but this was some of the newer stuff disturbing our young minds.

Welcome to the musical mix world of Kevin Purdy

Here lies my outlet, now that I haven't been doing radio for a while, for gathering a collection of sounds and styles, to delight and maybe edumacate the listener to other worlds of musical pleasure.

'Illumination' (SOFT008) by Kevin Purdy, a solo version of Purdy, with Kevin stripping back the sound to a luscious, deep, minimalist soundscape. The album comes to you as a beautiful 140gm LP, yes vinyl, it comes with a download card and sticker. To hear the tunes you can check Bandcamp and SoundCloud. 2018 saw the release of Purdy’s 6th solo album entitled ‘In Transit’ Kevin ventures further into a more ‘live’ creation, utilising his own instrumentation as a sampling source, working instinctively to allow songs to write themselves. The album has a theme and portrays the experience of travel, of journey afloat the shifting tides of life. There are a host of wonderful guest musicians aboard to help make it that much more fun. Next up was the release of the album 'Avoidance' by Geoff Kevin, that being renown singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist Geoff Towner and yours truly. The album is a beautifully unique collection of songs and instrumentals, fusing the musical worlds of both artists into a fascinating whole. Released 2021 (SOFT011) Having entered into the territory of 'songs' Kevin set forth to complete a series of lyrical works that he had begun after completing Deviant Nature. Apart from the simple joy of completion, Kevin was also able to apply all that he had learned over those years as well as all of the growing experiences he could add to the body of the work. This album was released in July of 2024 as 'Kevin Purdy'. Whereas 'In Transit' shows a journey, this album is more a reflection of the journey. Definitely not a full stop, more smelling the roses.
